The way is long, the way is hard
Many die before they start.
We’ve survived long enough to try

Last night I came to realize
That all this beauty is just death’s disguise
And that love is a tender undertaker

And happiness may be a trick
A tragedy, a slow magic
A slight of hand that finally pulls you down

Now we’ve stopped ignoring signs
A hope that we’ll escape this grind
That eats away at memory

Vengence is the shape of the hole
Waiting to be filled in my heart

A heavy wind blows through all of this
Through the trees and our emptiness
And it’s whistle, the sound of longing

For where it’s going and where it’s been
To cease the motion it’s always in
To be still without purpose

Because purpose breeds a heavy burden
The risk of failure always incurring
But win or lose, the earth awaits our bones

And vengence is the shape of the hole
